I would try Itasca State Park in Minnesota. I live a couple hrs south of there. It is where the headwaters of the Mississippi begin and you can walk rocks across that. It would be beautiful to see and I am sure there is web information where you can find out about camping there. If you went soon, you would get in on all the great color that is about to begin around here. I am not quite sure when peak is there. Where I am it is early October.
