The answer A is correct. It can't be isolated.

My guess is that it is C, the activated complex is the top of the energy hill and would be very unstable.

But, if your reactant was sodium in a lake of chlorine, you are not going to find sodium, depends on the reaction.

intermediate can be trapped, but not isolated.
