I found this short article in your problem, perhaps reading it might just help you out.
What is an ovarian cyst?
An ovarian cyst is a fluid-filled sac in the ovary. Many cysts are completely normal. These are called functional cysts. They occur as a result of ovulation (the release of an egg from the ovary). Functional cysts normally shrink over time, usually in about 1 to 3 months. If you have a functional cyst, your doctor may want to check you again in 1 to 3 months to make sure the cyst has got smaller. In certain cases, your doctor may want you to take birth control pills so you won't ovulate. If you don't ovulate, you won't form cysts.

If you are menopausal and are not having periods, you shouldn't form functional cysts. If you do have a cyst, your doctor will probably want you to have a sonogram so he or she can look at the cyst. What your doctor decides to do after that depends on your age, the way the cyst looks on the sonogram and if you're having symptoms such as pain, bloating, feeling full after eating just a little, and constipation.

Most small cysts disapear on there own...not sure why doctor would offer surgery. I would say if it's causing alot of pain have it drained but if not leave it and it will disapear xx

Do you trust your doctor? If you do, you should allow him to do what is necessary for your health. Ovarian cysts may later turn to cancer or grow even larger and block a vital organ if not taken care of properly. I'll pray for you. Take care.

There s nothing to worry about, they may do keyhole surgery instead,if you have been advised to have the cyst out then i think you should. Its not a major op and its all safe these days being put asleep, you will be ok be brave and have it done.

My mom hade one about 3 years ago.

She drank green tea as that is said to strink or prevent cancers.

I think also, things like tomatoes and turmeric can prevent cancers, but definately green tea tree times a day.

I found a small cyst in my breast, before last Christmas, I took garlic tablets and drunk green tea.

I had one and it disburst itself, if your gp is offering open surgery, go for it as there is obviously a reason that he has offered you this treatment..
