I served in Iraq and Afghanistan, so I feel I have a unique prospective. To answer your question, I believe it isn't politics as usual. We handed command of the ANA (Afghan National Army) over to President Karzai around the same time from USSF a few years ago. The US had to make sure a stable government was in place (no matter how fragile) before handing over command of thousands of armed men. We've done that in the past (Columbia, Panama, etc) with dire consequences

If you look back at the history of the conflict, this is about the time that they said that they were going to try to hand the Iraqi Army back over to the Iraqi goverment ... so mmm I think they're pretty much sticking to their timeline ... instead of looking for coincidences and that ... why don't you look at the simple fact that yes ... we are slowly seeing some daylight and our boys and girls in uniform will be coming home someday soon.

Maybe, maybe not. What exactly is your problem with handing power over to the Iraqis? That's the ultimate mission. If they moved up the timetable to highlight the accomplishment, so what? That's politics. The only problem would be if they are handing power over prematurely. Is that your point? If so, would you care to explain, using your vast military, middle eastern, and political expertise, why the Iraqis aren't ready to run their own country?

No, it isn't. Monkey boy is scrambling in the hopes that he doesn't end up with a congress that is something than the rubber stamp that he has had for six years. The interesting thing will be how much we really hand over. My guess is that it is just a PR thing.

Yes. Even with them in power, they still need the US military to help with all the in fighting. I don't see the US being completely free of Iraq before GW leaves the WH.

Just before the elections? Are you kidding? The American memory is about 7 days long in matters like this, and that is stretching it. Are you voting in mid-September?

I hope so, then your liberal vote goes to waste........again......

No, it's not a coincidence. It is total bullcocky, just like the Iraqi "elections". Once again the "MISSION ACCOMPLISHED" banner is being put in the sheeple's face and the Neocons are stupid enough to fall for it once again!
