The dealer is your best choice, though any good repair shop should be able to read the code the computer's thrown and diagonse the problem.
I'm assuming the car's still under warranty - if not, the dealer will probably be more expensive for the same work as a reputable shop.
If you're into DIY (guessing not), you can get the code read at a parts store and decide from there.

Check the owner's manual. I have an 04 Murano with less than 17k miles on it and the same happened to me while on a trip. The light came on a bit after putting gas on the car. I checked the manual then called the nissan service center. They both agreed that I should try checking the gas cap and make sure it was tight. Then, wait a few days and see if it went away. Why? Because if I had left the cap loose that would trigger the light to come on, then it would take a bit for it to go off. It worked, the light dissapeard after 3-4 days.

What I am learning is that the dealer is not always the best place to take your car in for service. You would think that they use factory replacement parts and have more knowledge about your vehicle than anyone. I soon found out that some of the national chain service centers and local "mom&pop" operations are more likely to use genuine GM parts while the dealerships are using the "brand x" factory parts.

How long since your Last service ?
If the Manual Specs services at 3,000 miles , Hmm 21000 / 3000 equals ?
And the Odo is about 21000 and the Service light came on today ?
I think it is genuine - Time for a service

Yes, take it to the dealer. It might be an engine issue but sometimes it is just a short in that little light! Good Luck

You can take it to the dealer. They have a scan coder that can find out what is wrong.Good chances are, whatever it is, it should be under warranty. You can also buy yourself a scan too ($@50-99) and check the problem yourself. Also, having a loose gas cap will set it off. Tighten your gas cap, 3 clicks.

take it in as soon as possible. it is likely that something accidentally triggered the light, but it can also indicate something bad. you have an owners manual that actually tells you exactly what that light is indicating. check it out, but best thing is to take it in. If you dont have a warranty, then you will definately pay more at the dealership, but that car is so new, they should take care of it for you! good luck

That light comes on when you pass certain mileage totals, to remind you to do regular maintainance. There is probably a different "trouble light" for specific problems -- e.g. if you brake pads were worn.

more than likely you need an oil change. the light on mine comes on when the oil needs to be changed. When you take it in you Can have them look for any other problems.
