Note: If you accept that many of the GOP Conservative Fundamentalist are from rural regions, and logically, many of them are Farmers, and then you add to this their chronic diatribe against welfare, then this has to raise a few eyebrows. If it is all about “self-reliance” and “Individual Responsibility” and “Ownership” and, of course, “lower taxes” then why should the Senate of the United States be passing out welfare checks to the farmers? These big strong men can do it “all on their own” and “a country boy can survive” then I suggest we let them, on their own, with no help from the Federal Government. If they fold … too bad. We are just playing by their own rules.

Truth is simple: They can’t survive without dipping into the Federal Coffers; they just don’t want you and me in the city to have a share of the Tax dollars.

SHIRAZ: Oppression, Tyranny, Conformity through coercion is not to be tolerated. Hypocrisy is not to be tolerated. Lies are not to be tolerated. Honest error can be, but we have not seen honest error and humanity from the Conservative factions in the United States since 2000. We have not seen Compassionate Conservatives. We have seen bigotry, ignorance, and unbridled greed. If that is what Conservatives want, then the gate swings both way.

BTW: Many of these "farms" are run by multi-national conglomerations like ADM.

i am in NC and the crops look great. cotton, corn, soybeans, peanuts and tobacco (for a nice tobacco salad). just a few weeks ago i heard some scumbag talking about a friend of his who said that he makes more money by claiming that his crop is a waste. FED MONEY pays him for his lack of a crop. honest farmers work hard and ARE the backbone of this country supplying food, raw materials for clothing, fuel and plastics (yeah, that's right all from the farm)... and tobacco (for nice salads). it's just a small minority of "farmers" who aren't HONEST. the GOV should put a little more time, energy and, of course, tax money (it's like free money to those guys... they've got reputations to uphold) into fraud investigation and prosecution. maybe then, we will see the welfare numbers decrease in the rural areas as well as in the urban areas where you will find an equal amount of scum (trust me, i'm from ATL).

I suspect a lot of this has to do with the U.S. Hispanic chamber of commerce and the corn growers association. Besides programs to help the farmers, and the ethanol industry, there are programs to help the farm workers (did I say illegal immigrants?).
You're right, these subsidies just like the tax incentives for big-oil companies are making big profits at the expense of taxpayers.
I link an open question to you concerning additional tax breaks for business in this area.

My guess would be because they all own non-working farms and want to get paid for not growing anything on them. This proposal may be written to make it sound like its designed to help the struggling farmers but watch how much of it is going to help pay for not growing crops. Real farmers don;t get paid fopr that, that is earmarked for political paybacks.

Sounds like the politicians may want to give themselves a Christmas bonus courtesy of the taxpayers.
