Many dolls are famous worldwide and have had long lasting appeal, Barbie, Raggedy Ann (as already mentioned) Kewpie, and my favorite, the Shirley Temple doll.
In the 1934 Ideal secured the rights to make the first Shirley Temple doll, the success was so great that they had difficulty keeping up the the demand and was the number one selling doll for the next 5 years. In the late 1950's Ideal produce a new vinyl version for a new generation of little girls who were introduced to Shirley on television. She was reintroduced by Ideal in 1972 and again in 1982. In the late 1980's Shirley Temple Black gave Danbury Mint permission to create a series of porcelain dolls in her likeness with new dolls being still being made today. To learn more about Shirley Temple dolls please visit the websites of two very dear friends of mine.

The Raggedy Ann and Andy Dolls have been loved by children since the early 1900's after Johnny Gruelle gave one to his ailing daughter, Marcella. He then began the writings of the Raggedy Ann story books. About 2-3 years ago Raggedy Ann was voted one of the "Toys of the Year".
