I don't want to spend more than $1000 but I need it to be fast. One other question is how do you choose between a laptop and a notebook?

A laptop and a notebook are the same thing. For a $1000 you should be able to get a pretty good PC from any company. I suggest you just find the one with good customer service because any company can make a lemon, the question is always how well they take care of it.

First a laptop and a notebook are the same thing. If you mean how to choose between PC or Mac please get a PC. Get a laptop if you need to take your computer with you if not then get a desk top PC. You can easily get a new computer for under $1000. It will probably have a somewhat good graphics card even if you don't need one and that is o.k. not a problem. If you need fast Internet service then you need to ask when you are buying the computer if it is all ready set up for high speed Internet usage. Most new computers are ready to go for high speed or dial up Internet usage. You will have to pay a lot more per month for a high speed Internet account though. High speed Internet accounts can be high speed cable like TV cable and or digital subscriber line or even wireless high speed Internet. You will just have to look in the phone book for your local Internet servers and ask some of them about their services and prices.
