We repress our emotions in front of most people because we don't want to be 'that person with emotional baggage'.

I have deep wells of emotion, but don't keep it on display for the world. I save it to burden my friends and family with .. haha. just joking.

Seriously though. I remember in High School those girls (not many guys) who were always crying, or getting into fights and just could not have one day where they reacted rationally to life, and they got on my nerves. People who show their emotion too much strike me as being 'needy' and 'pathetic'.

Can't they deal with an upset? Don't they realise that the people who are constantly comforting them just might resent them for being so needy?

So I guess for me - I express emotion when it's real and defined. I try not to let my hormonal fluctuations bully me and make me a pain in people's arses.

The emotions have been considered bad stepchilren to the consious intellect. They are viewed as unconsious and untrustworthily primal;however, if one does let an emotion follow its natural course, it will lead to the belief, often nearly or fully conscious, behind the emotion. They can guide if they are accepted as relevant.

People hold in their emotions for fear of someone finding out they actually have emotions. That way they can't be hurt or affected b/c they are hiding what makes them feel.

its a shield they put up in order to avoid getting hurt. some people just do it because they don't want others to be able to figure them out. also we all do it, whenever we are placed in a new setting and don't know anyone
