I don't think it will happen, the big three will have to adapt to the new world and offer alternative fuel vehicles and keep up with the technology of the future but I think that it can and will be done. You have to remember that they have been fighting off foreign competitors since the beginning. I know that I would rather drive a Ford or a Chevy the push my Toyota any day.

Ask the Union blood suckers they should know when a host is about to die and when they should look for another. And it's not junk for the most part on the Gm side as for Ford...? Well you know the saying F.O.R.D. Fix Or Repair Daily. Maybe the Unions are supporting illegal immigration because they know most Mexican immigrant like Ford trucks and they think they can do better sales to illegals. Just a thought.

I wonder what would have happened if the big three hadn't forced all other american car makers out of business? We could have diversified our portfolio, and people could drive AMCs, or packards, etc...again. But, I think Bill Ford stepping down was a good idea, and I think that going private will also help. Not sure about GM, I think that their merger didn't go through. Boeing will definitely help out Ford...

Ford is going in the tank. GM is doing a little better. However, I think GM will spin off some of their better performing parts of their company. Then they will file bankruptcy and screw the unions.

As we become more and more dependent on foreign, cheap labor and manufactured goods, we become less and less able to provide for ourselves should we ever have to. This could be a real concern considering the state of the world today.
Should a world conflict ever break out, we cannot count on our "economic friends" to supply us with the manufacturing capabilities necessary to supply us with the tools of war.
Ford and GM will be around for a long time to come. New product lines, restructured for world competition and with new people at the helms - America cannot afford to lose any more in-house major manufacturing capabilities.

Pretty soon.
It is sad that you are talking about AMERICANS JOB. Ford, GM, Chrysler are the back bone of my community. I see it every day that 1000 of people lost their job, retirement, pension.
The paper is nothing but foreclose homes.
Here in Michigan that's all we have got.

Government loans will help them cling to the wreckage for awhile longer, as it did Chrysler years ago.
