Do you have a popup blocker program installed? Yahoo includes one in its Toolbar. Make sure it is turned on. Also, WinXP incudes a popup blocker in Internet Options. Make sure it also is turned on.
Do you have any anti-adware or anti-spyware programs installed? Like Ad-ware or Spybot? If so, run them and see if they can get rid of your problem.
However, they probably won't. Rapid-fire popups usually mean your computer is so infested with adware that you will have to remove them manually.
Everytime you see a popup, record the name of the program, then search your harddrive for it and delete it manually. May take a long time to do this, but it's the only way I've found to get rid of some of these popups.

Wow - that's a lot of adware.
It could be caused by a number of different things - it may be adware in it's normal sense, it could be malware of it could be being caused by a program which has become installed on your computer.
Adware causes unwanted ads to appear, sometimes this is the price you pay for using free software, other times it's completely unwarranted.
Malware is a generic term for 'bad programs', things like viruses and worms. These can do pretty much whatever the writer has programed them to do, they may be relatively harmless or may corrupt your entire computer.
More about adware, malware etc from Microsoft...

Google Pack is an excellent set of programs which includes 6 months free subscription to Norton Anti-Virus as well as adware and spyware removal programs. There's loads of other stuff like the Google video player, Google Earth etc... http://pack.google.com

Spybot - http://www.safer-networking.org/
AVG - http://free.grisoft.com/doc/20/lng/us/tpl/v5
Try installing some of the above and see if that gets rid of the problem - hopefully it will.
If the above programs don't work it's probable that you have a program installed which is causing the pop-ups. The program won't be adware, spyware or a virus so it's unlikely to be detected by security software. If this is the case then you need specific instructions for the removal of the program. If the pop ups are for a particular product or service then try Googling the product name - this may lead you to removal instructions. Failing that, post another question and include as much info as poss about the adverts - what they're for, what site they link to, are they random or every time you perform a certain action etc etc.

Go to cnet,s download.com and get a some free Ad ware and Spy ware software and run them to clean up your system. I use 'Ad-Aware' and 'Spybot Search and Destroy'. You can get both of these programs for free at that site and they free and do an excellent job of removing and preventing this type of thing on your computer. Also as was mentioned earlier turn on your pop up blocker by clicking on 'Tools' at the top of your browser window and turn on the pop up blocker. Good luck.

If it is that often you probably have an adware program installed. You will have to download a program to get rid of it.

I use Ad-Aware. I have the paid version, but the free version does its job very well. You can find it at www.lavasoft.com It is one of the programs mentioned most often in articles about this type of software.
