Sweet. I am a guitarist/songwriter too. I have written about 30 songs.
The first step is to get your ideas down on paper. Start out simple. Write as much as you can. Sometimes I write the chorus first, but that's just me. I usually start with the 1st verse though. Sometimes for me a title doesn't come until I'm done with the song. Once you write a couple of simple songs, then your lyrics will start to sound more perfessional and clearer the more you write. But, it's up to you what you want to do.

Feel free to email me. I can tell you more about songwriting and tell you some of the meanings of my songs.

Good luck with everything. Have FUN!!!

i disagree with the kiss method. thats how bad music is made... not by that specific rule, but by rules in general. just do what you feel. be creative. straight forward lyrics get boring. try analogies of what you are singin about. instead of writing about a relationship going sour, use a different story to tell the same feeling. mostly though you just need to be honest, everything else will fall into place.

BARNES & NOBLE HAS A LOT OF BOOKS ON SONGWRITING.....I'VE BEEN WRITING SONGS SINCE I WAS ABOUT 10.....THE BOOKS HELPED ME, BUT YOU ALSO NEED TO HAVE A NATURAL ABILITY TO WRITE A HIT.....GOD BLESS!

The best thing when your writing a song is to write from experiance, but i dunno there isnt really much advice except that there are no rules and anything goes.

for lyrics:

the K.I.S.S. method:
Keep It Simple Stupid

You might wonder if something is not developed enough, but when put to music it will be fine.
