Can I convert it to another format (eg .mpeg). But how do I convert it back to .vob?

You can convert it to another format but I don't think there is a way to convert it back. Because the quality of VOB is much better than the others (you know how good a DVD compare to VCD :-) ). Besides, VOB can play with some other files to form sub-title for the movie. MPEG doesn't have this ability.

Btw, you also can simply split VOB file into smaller files and play them. The same video quality, just no sub-title will be able to display.

U can trim,edit vob files in a DVD using DVD cutter.
it is not possible if u had seperate .vob files.i think so.

what is the .vob,, in which programs do u use it,,

try using a program called DVD Shrink it will help you reduce the size of the video by cutting of things you can live without (audio in other languages, subtitles etc.)
