When someone is handicapped we now say "handi-capable"... WHY... the word handicapped was actually invented as a politically correct word, now it is a bad word to use... WHY? Can't these people grow a little (*just a little*) backbone and not get offended at everything that is said. Handicapped is just one of MANY examples. Why do I have to be chastised everytime I am (by their definition) insensitive? I understand that most people that agree with me will probably write a response... I want to hear from the people that get offended so I can understand better why they get offended by such terms.

I think many of the PC words or phrases are useless. I think it is advisable to avoid racial slurs and the rest can be called what they are.

Handicapped people are disabled. They got a whole act out of congress: ADA Americans with Disabilities Act. that can be their name and they can just roll up the ramp and be happy with it.

whoa.. I am soooo out of touch. I've not heard of Handi-capable. But just for the sake of argument, let's pretend for a moment that you're in a wheelchair and while you may not be Stephen Hawkings, you still have all your faculties (and you're brilliant) except for not being able to physically stand up. Now someone calls you handicapped - you're not really - you are physically challenged. Politically correct or not... we are redefining the English language to express not only a more acceptable phrase, but one that depicts an accurate meaning. Okay, I'm rambling... I am vertically challenged and am offended being called short.

I hadn't heard of handi-capable, so I must be politically uncorrect!
I agree with you about people getting a backbone and being less sensitive. I think adding different words just draws attention to it even more.
