Okay, I've read most of Douglass, but I'm still not sure how to neatly package the phrase. I'm not a very good writer and the context of history often escapes me.

If you don't want to help me, then fine, but what the hell are you doing on Yahoo! Answers other than being a jerk if the only aid you can muster is "Huh huh, read the book!"?
