From what I remember fairies live inside hallowed out hills called a Sidhe. But I believe they can be found anywhere around the world. The only thing I would worry about is if they take you away will they ever let you leave? I also remember hearing that if you are ever in the realm of the fey, if you eat anything you will be trapped there forever.

A circle of mushrooms, tall grass, little pebbles and even petals from flowers are signs that fairies have been there. The discoloration of grass is also a sign but remember it has to be a circle. There is a spell...more like a song that could call a fairie to you. Of course you'll have to get in touch with your innocence first and meet them at night. A fairies magic is useless durring the day. you could always join the dance they do but remember to not wear shoes. wearing shoes enables them to take you away as many think of jumping into the middle they'll take you away. I have a fairrie ring in my yard. it appeared at my cousin's wiccaning.
blessed be.

I have seen faerie rings in the park that is surrounded by deep woods where I live.(A dark hollow circle of grass approximately 1 ft in diameter on normal green grass, about a dozen in a 100 acre field) I read on-line that these are caused by a fungi in the ground and are called Faerie Rings.

But I like your take on it too. I love stuff like that and believe there are magical places in the world. These places reside on what they call Ley Lines.

Actor Nicolas Cage has recently moved to Glastonbury Tor in Somerset England because the home resides on this magical ley line. It is said there have been sightings of spiritual beings, some being in the form of fairies in that area. I guess only he would know. But don't fret, there are some great ley line areas in every country, you just have to find them.

My daughter says this is true about fairies being near a circle of mushrooms. She has not seen any fairies YET.

scientifically the rotting of a stump goes out in a circle and a ring of darker grass is left, often in this dark ring is found mushrooms. in old myth it is believed to be thier homes. i also know that this form of mushroom in this area is quite edible if before it breaks up and spores. they are excellent on my salads. i had friends that remarked how fairies are getting mad that i take away all their homes. i leave a few good choices and make greetings with them. i can sometimes feel their presence but not always. well hope that helps

the circle of mushrooms is a place that the fey will gather.

there are some accounts of people who claim to have been taken to a magickal land by the fey after they stepped into a fairy circle.

the fey are everywhere, as people immigrate so do the fey.

it is quite possible that you could run into a Leprechaun in the USA for example.

Images of faeries will also draw them close, as to lush plants and foliage,,,they seem to like plants with broad leaves.
and crystals like amethyst and quartz are nice to have to promote good energy.

The myth is that you have to stand there at Midnight on Mid Summer's Eve night. After you have annointed your eyes with the dew from the grass around the ring.

No more fairies in fairy rings I'm afraid, at least not in England. In Scottland and Wales maybe, certainly in Ireland, but humans are chasing them away from everywhere with their incessant noise and their conrete and their electricity.

I've heard that as well. :) Actually, although the word faery is used to denote the Tuatha De Danaan (faires of Ireland, Scotland, England, Cornwall and Wales), these powerful beings are respectfully spoken of around the world . . . :)

So say the legends. As to where they may live ... all the legends originate from the British Isles (England, Ireland, et al). But you don't want them to take you away, if you follow the stories.
