The detailling on the maple leaf seems more detailed that that of a regular pennie. I cant seem to find an answer on this.

It has to have been plated by someone, for it didn't come from the mint that color. It could have originally come from, what they call in Canada "a proof like set" of 1972. That would account for the better detail in the coin. Even though I am an American I do collect some Canadian coinage. Going through J.A. Haxby " Coins of Canada" book, there is no listing for a silver 1972 cent. The date itself is not rare but quite common. There were 224,000 proof like sets made that year plus they minted 451 million cents for circulation.

i take it you have a canadian penny. by your description of the coin. i know the penny was made out of copper. they had 2 maple leaves on them. thats about all i know about them
