Different answers for different people -
A lot of younger people think they're too old, as in "My MOM liked them in the 80's - EEWWWWW!!!!";
A lot of people who REALLY BELIEVED IN U2 in the 80's had their hearts broken when U2 changed ("Messiah" for McPhisto);
The people who bought "Joshua Tree" in the 80's because it was a big hit don't care any more now than they did then;
The people who bought "Boy" in 1980 are more concerned with our failing health & the general s**t state of music & the world to keep up like we should (sad but true, an' it'll happen to you);
The Music Industry doesn't care because all the above answers mean that no new U2 album is going to go quadruple-platinum right out of the box, whereas, say, some easily-manipulated, greasy teenager who goes on a reality-TV show...

I think Military Police needs to do a little Fact-checking. The Lads from U2 are Dubs - hence they're Irish, NOT English.

ministe2003 took the words out of my mouth. Bono has become more concerned about sharing his political views than his music. It drives me insane to hear a man with that much money tell us regular, working class people we need to do something to help the poor. How about he donate a big chunk of his change? His ego has gotten the best of him, and I don't see it getting any better any time soon.

I have nothing against the band - note i said the BAND.
Their music is good (although not as it was) and they are a top live act, however Bono is an egotistical hypocrite.

how dare he sit in his mansion with millions in the bank, charging me £50 to watch his band, and then have the cheek to rave on about POVERTY!
His personal wealth could completely wipe out many African nations' debt yet he asks common schmoes like me to give money!

The final straw for me was when last year he refused to let Elton John cover 'One' for a charity CD unless the band received royalties. its an effing charity CD!!

Bono is the biggest hypocrite in music, he only gets involved with do-gooding in order to boost people's perceptions of him, and god dammit it works too - people who take things at face value think he's great, its when u look at him in more detail you see his other side, one that supposedly supported the IRA, gives relatively little to charity (he does give, but compared to his vast wealth he gives relatively very little) and sits in one of his mansions rolling around in his millions.

I've never heard of anyone being anti-U2. Virtually everyone I know has some respect for the band.

Personally, I haven't enjoyed much of their stuff beyond 'Actung Baby'.

Because Bono likes to push his political views on everyone else. Shut up and sing. Oh yeah, they have some good songs, but most of it sucks!

They were over-played in the 80's. I enjoy listening to them now; but it was the same thing w/ Michael Jackson, Duran Duran, etc. back then. I'd prolly feel the same about today's music, if I listened to 'top 40's' stations.
