It probably means nothing, if the car is running well. However, a car will often run fine with a worn-out oxygen sensor, but will get poor gas mileage. This may have tripped your light. You may have to take the car to a GM dealer to have the malfunction code read and find out what the problem is.

Too bad this is not a 1996, as that is when the OBD-II system was implemented. With an OBD-II tester, just about anyone can check the malfunction code and reset the light. Heck, I have such a device at home and it cost less than $100.

For about $50 a mechnic can evaluate it by hooking it up to their computer. It is probably a sensor of some type.
If you want to take time and do a tune up..plugs, fuel filter, air cleaner filter, belts, oil change, etc and find out it wasn't any of those. Go ahead, if you are mechanically inclined.
I myself would cut to the chase and get 'er done right away!
Put your mind to rest and get on with driving it with out fear of a breakdown!
