You don't have to have money to be happy, but it doesn't hurt! Being happy is a state of mind, you make your own happiness! And you make your own destiny! Smile! Be Happy!!!

By wealthy, I will assume you mean having a lot of money. As for an answer, no. However, money can buy time. With time, one can afford to do the thing one enjoys.

Does doing the things one enjoys necessarily make one happy? If not, I think it would help a lot. That said, one still can be happy without being monetarily wealthy.

Here, in the US, our society puts WAY too much emphasis on pecuniary values and material possessions. Why people allow themselves to get caught up in the rat-race of it all is beyond me. I'd rather have a lot less and enjoy the small comforts and pleasure that life can afford, without the stress of chasing some absurd ideal.

A good woman, some wine or B&B, and good music to which to relax is all I want.

Wealth isn't necessary for happiness, but it sure helps. If you are worried about how you are going to pay the next bill, or where you will get your next meal, that can make it hard to keep happy. But friends, family, being in a romantic relationship, and doing fun things can help with happiness. There'd be a lot of miserable folks out there if money was the only thing to make you happy since the majority of the people in the world aren't millionaires.

Having a lot of money is not a predictor of happiness. There are several studies done to confirm this in the social sciences. Lately, the New Economics Foundation in Britain compiled a happiness index.

Of the industrial powers, the richest nations in the world, Italy came out in only in 66th place, ahead of Germany (81), Japan (95), Britain (108), Canada (111), France (129), the United States (150) and Russia, in 172nd place.

The tiny South Pacific Ocean archipelago of Vanuatu is the happiest.

"Don't tell too many people, please," said Marke Lowen of Vanuatu Online, the republic's online newspaper.

"People are generally happy here because they are very satisfied with very little," Lowen told The Guardian.

"This is not a consumer-driven society. Life here is about community and family and goodwill to other people. It's a place where you don't worry too much," Lowen said.

"The only things we fear are cyclones or earthquakes," he said.

No, I saw a documentary on the natives along the Amazon in Brazil. They showed a midwife delivering a baby. The midwife was in her 80's. All the children of the village would come to see her and get a hug and a blessing as she had delivered them too. The kids were playing in the forest and working with their hands to provide food for the table. They were all happy and fit looking. They thrived in their environment with little stress and a real sense of community. Its not about money. It's about relationship with God and your fellow man. Those are the things that make life rewarding.

Knowlege of self, control of our attitudes, acceptance of things we cannot change, love of oneself and acceptance of others' differences; there are so many things that in combination with material wealth can give a person happiness. Material wealth is not one of the requirements, though.

In my opinion, if I stay physically healthy and in a good shape, it is the true happiness. If you win the whole world and loose yourself, there is no happiness there.
