Absolutely not! The government and the wealthy control everyone, what they buy, how their health care is administered (pharmaceutical companies are mega-wealthy and have the entire nation on dangerous prescription drugs to make money), and now more than ever, our freedoms are being eroded (think forced diversity and airport security procedures, for example). Get smart and look around you at all the propaganda. Most people believe it, unquestioning, like a herd of cattle. Open your eyes and think about things, and then you will truly be free. You may not be able to change things, but at least your mind will be free.

Free from what? My children as they became adults wanted to be free from being told what to do - they were free but they soon realized that their freedom cost them.

Freedom is not free!

In America we have many freedoms that other countries are not afforded and I am grateful for those freedoms. Is there a cost for those freedom, yes! Because the person right beside me has those same freedoms and I might find him and his actions offensive and I am now not free from those offensives.

To be truly free has nothing to do with countries or anything external but all about internally and how you choose to live your life. We are all free to make a choice!

Yes, we are free to worship God without the government telling us how to do it. We are free to chose any occupation we want to do. We are free to say what we want even if it isn't what the government wants us to say. We have freedom of the press.
Freedom to assemble. Freedom to vote for who we want to be over us as ruler. Freedom to carry a gun for protection if we want one. When we get arrested freedom to have a speedy trial.
Not locked up forever at the whim of some dictator.
We most definitely have freedoms and these should be respected and appreciated. Other countries don't have these freedoms. If we cannot afford a lawyer one will be appointed for you. Courtesy of the government. If you are a child abandon by your parents the goverment finds you a place to live in a safe enviroment, pays someone to raise you and educate you.
so you can be a worthwhile person in society.
You have social security to support you in old age, other countries don't have that. In Mexico orphans beg in the streets and sell their bodies for sex. Old people sell gun and candy on the beach or beg in the streets. When they are to old to work.

We could debate the meaning of your question forever. How much freedom is reasonable for people to be able to function in organized society? I think that Americans have more individual freedom of expression than the citizens of most countries. Civilization, however, is always a contest between government, whose job is easier if we have fewer freedoms, and our desire for more!

No. I work up to sixty hours a week sometimes to pay for the amerian dream. Nothing in this country is free. Yes we are free to slave our lives away, yes we are free to put up with corrupt politicians and a gov. that only cares about lining its own pockets, and yes we are free if we dont like it to leave.

Freedom is limited by laws and social mores. By my definition I am truly free.

Almost we cannot really propose ideas to our legislature and the drug war is f*cked up it's not funny. Meth,Heroin,Coke,Crack, and Ex are apparently nothing to marijuana. So they coulld legalize the latter but one day I would like to feel just a little more idependent then believing their judgement is always the best judgement for our best personal interest. Meaning god gave us free will and when it comes to our freedom they have it by the bal*s.

Americans are the biggest slaves in the world, but, what make them different to all the other slaves is that they think they're actually free.

In my view if you can think freely--without prejudice of any kind--and express yourself feely--without unduely hurting the feelings of others--and act freely--without causing harm to others--then you are truly free.
