A few free resources – check out the sources box for links:
1) Create a blog pertaining to your field
2) Use Yahoo! Local & Yahoo! Groups – Be sure to read the TOS for each one!
3) Write articles pertaining to your field and/or expertise.
4) Advertise on Craiglist

There are sites which offer Classified Ads services. Yahoo's Classifieds are one, http://classifieds.yahoo.com/ or you can always sell it through your local eBay site. Try searching the web using the keyword "free classified ads" and "sell for free".

If you go in for paid sites, you can avoid advertisement. Even, in Yahoo, if you opt for paid service, you can avoid advertisement. Advertisement, is the source of revenue for sites. Otherwise, how can they survive?
