So my friends I live in Lincoln, IL. My town is insane cause they have had a plan to build a 305 foot statue of Abe Lincoln Out Side our little town. This plan has been in the works for 8 years, we all had thought that it had died finally,...but we recently heared that its still in the works...AHHHHH!!! This story has been put in the public eye and now we are the laughing stalk of the nation. I know that I'm not the only one in town that doesnt want this here. Its a truely insane project (being worth several million dollars) plus did I say that you can see it 20 miles away.??? Oh my freaken god... Now the Q is, would you come and pay money to see this? What is your opinion? Any would be great cause It will help me in the cause of stopping this GIANT ABE!!!!

To make my point a little clearer is this... Our town is only about 12,000 pop, and the inner city is pretty much dying, ghost stores and everything. Plus this statue they want to build is truely ugly. I personally will move out of the town if they do this. I was born and raise here and now raising my own son here. There is so much more they can do with that type of money to help our town then build that god awful thing.

Wow I agree that this sounds like a large, very expensive project and doesn't seem necessary. I couldn't really visualize 305 feet so I searched to see how tall the statue of Liberty is .... surprise "The height from ground to the top of the torch is 305 feet" The Statue of Liberty has a great story about being a gift and standing along the New York coast it looks at home nestled amongst the skyscrapers... but in Lincoln, IL I think this is just odd. Maybe you and your friends could go to a town meeting a propose an alternate idea something more suited to your town but still a dedication to the towns namesake. It may not work but maybe it would draw some atttention to your side.

Though Abraham Lincoln was a great man, he wasn't a god. Though it took me many years, I have come to believe that we have made some huge mistakes erecting statues of people in violation of God's commandments about false gods and creating and worshiping graven images. A giant Abe is definitely over the top. I'd be fighting tooth and nail to prevent it from happening.

If this is being built with tax dollars, it should be halted.

Will this be a statue of Lincoln before or after he was shot?

Why would I pay to see it if I could see it for free from 20 miles away, or closer for a better view?

Someone probably expressed the same concerns over the Statue of Liberty once...
