So why doesn't this count as looking something up on the web? The only real difference is that the answers you get here are probably less reliable.

This site is designed for people to come and ask questions. Why are you telling people they are lazy for using a web site for its intended purpose? It's like going into a grocery store and calling the shoppers lazy because they aren't farmers.

No not really, I for one would not trust answers I got here because Heaven only knows who answered it, and why they answered it.

It's the human experience that brings people here. A person in Maine can ask a question, and people all over this world can respond. You get a feeling of connection, a feeling that you are part of it all.

Much as the spider web gracing the face of my Halloween avatar, each thread is connected to another and another, and the finished product is a work of beauty. Just think, your question has the possibility of being seen by thousands and thousands of people, and each person can answer your question. It makes me glad I live in the time period I do.

I dislike the questions where there is only one answer. I like to read the answers to questions where the answerers had to think, and I like to answer questions where I have to think too :).

Cheers :)

I also wonder the same thing when I was new in here, maybe some are just lazy to search it in the net, but some of them ask hypothetical questions, need some advice or what ever that can't be search in the net.

It's part laziness but I also think it's comforting for some people to hear the answers from real people. There are also other that are immature or have no common sense or self-esteem and they crave the attention that this type of forum can provide them.

Part laziness.

Its like asking a friend the meaning of a word while having a dictionary in front of you. Anyway, who wud flip over pages when u can shout? Who wud surf for answer when u have Yahoo Answers?

Indeed they are lazy. The do not want to do anything which will make them use their brain. They want everything handed over to them on a plate. Why do you think 85 percent of the Americans are obese. This is simply because they simply sit there and stuff their face all the day.

No just smart. Many answers are subjective, insightful, concise and poignant. Sad question though I just wanted the 2 points even if I gave you the best answer for free.

it's a great question in fact.
i think here there are ton's of information. that information has nothing to do with the questions.
it has to do with the persons who answer them.
i think this is a huge project, and it's free, and have no inssurance risk of any kind.
is wonderful! if i wanted to find out what is people thinking, without being afraid of telling their "real" thougths, i would invented yahoo answers :)
it reminds me orwell.
you can tell a lot about your original question, i can respond for myself. i read question because of my curiosity.
i answer because i really want to tell something to that specific person who asked.
i've never post a question, i really don't see the point of doing that.
but, i imagine, a lot of people who ask, may be:
- they are afraid to question to someone who knows him or her
- they simply have no one to ask
- they don't "trust" internet information, and they think here is real people (in fact, that phrase is among the slogans of the product)
- they need a sort of "habilitation", they need someone give them directions to where all over internet, trust better.
