The longer I have the hiccups, the more I laugh....and then after a while, the hiccups start hurting. So I think I need to stop them before they get out of hand...

OK pretty eyes, do this: go in the back yard and bury a potato. turn around three times and say "Hiccups be gone". They won't leave immediately but within an hour they will be gone.

I get hiccups allot, I feel for you! Holding my breath never worked for me..drinking BIG GULPS of Water from a straw 95% of the time will do it. I am also a nurse (RN), and I have had to go and get a shot of Thorizine before. Since I work there, I would slip in real quick and be on my way. That is what they would give you at the hospital..it is a shot and it will make you alittle drowsy. But it works.

For the past 6 years or so, I tend to get hiccups once every other day, on average. Quite annoying. I've tried a lot of remedies -- almost all of the ones I've seen here.

The only one that works consistently for me is to take in a deep breath then cover my mouth and hold my nose. This is to make sure no breath/air escapes. Then count to 10. When you get to 10, don't breath out. Breath in and then exhale.

Seems to knock my diaphragm back into whack more than anything else.

I PROMISE you, this is not a joke. It is a sure-fire hiccup cure.

Place you thumb at the notch in bridge of your nose (the little curve where the nose meets the forehead).

While breathing normally, press your thumb into this bridge area and keep pressing for one minute. After that, take a deep cleansing breath, and your hiccups are gone. GUARANTEED TO WORK.

Let me know if it helps.

Get a glass of water and bend then over 90 degrees at the waist -and then take a sip from the part of the glass furthest away from you. Slowly swallow the water whilst still bent over - quite difficult I know! Then stand up and as if by magic your hiccups will be gone!
good luck!

This is going to sound really silly, but it works 9 times out of 10 for me.
Drink water through a straw while plugging your ears. Keep drinking without taking a breath. When you finish your hiccups will be gone....Try it! It really does work...:)

At the first sign of getting the hiccups I always take a deep breath and hold it as long as I can and then breathe out slow and steady and slowly resume normal breathing. It seems to work for me most of the time really.

Rub both soft spots just under your ears behind the jaw bone with your index fingers. This simulates the nerve that controls the diaphragm. This muscle in spasm is what a hiccup is.

Take a glass of water and put a paper towel over the top. Wrap your hand around the paper towel to hold it there. Stand over a sink and drink the water without spilling it.

This really does work! Guar- on- teed!
