there are many things to look out for when fitting new work tops etc, it's impossible to say without knowing ur situation. For eg, if u want to masons mitre one piece to another on a corner then u will need a half inch shank router, 1800watt is good, a worktop jig, clamps etc. running the router the wrong way will break out the ends of ur cut, chipping abound! when cutting a hole for the sink, drill half inch hole on each corner as a 90 degree cut may split in time. Treat the cut hole with PVA to stop any water ingress if the water gets past the silicone seal between sink and work top.Is the space its going into square or do u have to scribe it to the wall? u can mark out the cut for the sink with 2 inch masking tape to get a pencil line to see where ur cutting. if on a corner, is there access for winding up underneath clamps? Lots to think about...having the right tools will help and common sense and take ur time, as has been said, measurere 3 times cut once, once its wrong its wrong and it'll cost u £90 for another bit of work top. Plumbing is a consideration also, have fun

Its not too difficult, but if you measure the sink hole wrong and cut it too large, its a new worktop needed!

Can you plumb OK?

Try it and find out. The worst things that can happen are:-

When cutting the worktop you chip the top surface.
When cutting the hole for the sink, you cut it too large or in the wrong place
Your plumbing isnt quite water tight and you find a slow leak 3 months later.
Your waste pipes are imperial and you only have metric fittings.

I am a kitchen fitter myself and trust me when i say that this is the job i least look foreward to when starting a kitchen. If you decide to do it yourself remember to use a downward cutting jigsaw blade and work from the top of the worktop. Good luck.

If you have corners to get round, It'll cost you more to buy the router drill and bits than to pay someone to come and do it. If you have a straight worktop, a decent jigsaw will be enough to cut a hole for your sink.

If you're handy, AND if you have the tools - You can do it. (just be sure to allow plenty of time - jobs like this ALWAYS take more time than you expect).

if you are having someone else make the counter top, and i recommend that you do, then have them cut the sink hole out. after that you should be able to handle it...
