yes. i have a 5 year old daughter and would love to effortlessly bake cakes and stuff with her in the kitchen, I'm ok, but i have to buy the ones in the boxes from the supermarkets, cheats cop-out!!!
I always love going to my grans for her sunday dinner, she makes the best yorkshire puddings, I'd love my grand kids to say the same about my cooking, but don't think that will happen!

yes and no
If its a young child etc 9-14 then i do not think they should be cooking thats the parents job
if they are 15 and older then learning hopw to make scrambled eggs etc is okay i think they can use a microwave instead of a cooker.
Young child are not stupid but they are not that bright and would get hurt or burnt from cooking so its very silly to even suggest that.
Until a child moves out on there own tehy should not need to know how to cook. Helping with the cookings fine aslong as adult present.
Most children cook in school through Home Economics aswell so they do not really need to do it at home Home Ec teaches children enough about cooking

Teaching your children to cook is great fun, my two help out all the time.
Even simple things like making a pizza, just use wholemeal muffins and a selection of toppings, they have a great time and there is not too much mess.
There are endless possibilites for children learning about food and helping, if you have a fussy eater they are more likely to eat if they help prepare the food.

Sure why not? I have taught boy my teenage boys to cook, it is a good tool for them to use when they are at college. My mom taught me when I was about 7, and from there when my mom was working, I had prepared dinner for the family. I did the same with my boys, I started them off slowly and with easy things to cook. This year, my 17 year old is offering to cook Thanksgiving. Oh yeah, kick back, watch a little tv, let my son serve me for a change. sounds good to me. It is real easy to learn to cook anyways.

Yes, and gardening, car maintenance, diy, languages. The education system wastes all its effort in teaching everybody about things that only a very small fraction will ever use in later life, like algebra, chemistry, etc, and ignores all the the things that just about every one of us could benefit from having at least a grounding in.

Why not my brothers and I could all cook a full Sunday Lunch by the time we were 7 - ish (with supervision - of course).
Mum couldn't cook when she got married and she always said that if nothing else we three would never starve!!!!!

kids need to learn how to cook because when they don't live at home they will need to eat something. if the healthy foods thing come in i'm guessing microwave meals will become a thing of the past.

Totally. The sooner we get back to proper food in this country then half the NHS waiting lists will doubtless fall. And anyway, who wants to eat stuff you know's ready when you hear a "Ding".
