Tokyo Babylon It's a graphic novel very dark and moving. I almost cried when I read the first book. It's got a good ending and every thing a book should have. You can purshase it at www.tokyopop.com It's worth it!

Funny books - anything by Bill Bryson
(Auto)biographies - Papillion (my fave book ever), Memoires of Cleopatra, Wild Swans
Thought Provoking - Knowledge of Angels, Anything by Susanna Tamaro
Others that are brilliant - The Lovely Bones, The Time Traveller's Wife, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time (I think thats the title), Lolita, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest

I'll agree with Glenn K on 'Kafka on the shore'- great book.
Currently reading 'In the shadow of the silk road' by Colin Thubron.
A great travelogue so well written that it gives you a sense of place without podding out shedloads of cash in travel expenses.
Whatever you do, don't buy a copy of the Maastricht treaty.
It's the sort of book that you buy for people you really can't stand.
(It should be registered under the strategic arms limitation treaty,it's that boring....)
