It seems every full screen game I own inevitably crashes or freezes about 2 minutes (or earlier) into gameplay. The screen freezes, but sometimes the soundtrack carries on, to the extent that nothing will work, not even ctl alt delete. It does this for just about everything, from undemanding games like Deus Ex to Max Payne 2 to Call of Duty. The only exceptions to this appear to be the original grand theft auto and civilization 4 (which merely flickers, prompting a restart and then works fine from there on) Deus Ex works fine in safe mode if I turn off 3d sound and keep it in a sizable window (not fullscreen) - but the instant I turn that off it crashes.

I have a GeForce 6200, AMD sempron 2800+, realtek AC97 audio, 1GB RAM.

Sounds to me like you need a better video card. 6200 I beleive is only 64mgs of video memory the games you are talking abotu are heavy on the video card.

You barely have the minimun to play those games and with that you will run into the problem you are having.

Advice is buy a better video card add more ram if your motherboard supports it.

Or better yet buy a better system. They are failry cheap now a days. check websites like tigerdirect.com or newegg.com for parts. They are failry reasonable prices and I have never had any issues with them when I buy my parts.

you video card is fine, that is not the problem. it it locks up all the way you probly have one or more of the following problems...

1) Spy-ware, try going to Lavasoft.com and download a free trial of Ad-aware.
2) to much running in the back ground, try removing minor programs such as Chat programs, Voice-over-IP programs.
even firewalls when not surfing the internet that is the cause of MANY problems specially at LAN parties.
3) it is a possibilty you computers processor or the computer it's self is over heating. or not enough power. be sure to look at your power supply and your over computer components to make sure your computer is not lacking the power it needs.
4) COMMON PROBLEM, your video card may require another power source other then what is provided by the AGP or SLI slot you put it in, be sure to check on the far end of the video card for a spot to put an additional power cable in. that would be a huge problem and problem your cause of everything.

Also clean out your computer's registry and check for spy ware... once your computer is clean, you can better understand if it's a hardware problem or a software problem.
