I used to live in the Blue Ridge Mountains of NC, not far from the Smokey's.
Usually the third week of OCT is the best. Of course, the colors come in at different time based on the elevation. The higher the earlier, then it works its way down.
If you haven't ever seen it, you should go.

I live here in Western NC, about 30 minutes from Cherokee, and the leaves here start turning as early as late september, but usually peak during the 3rd week of October. Temperature and rainfall generally play a factor in when the leaves start changing and when they peak, as well as when they fall off, but the 3rd week of October is generally the safest bet for seeing leaves at their peak color.

I was there a few years ago in mid October they were changing then try going at the end of October early November It was beautiful there enjoy

Hi,,, they usually begin in October,,once the first frost hits the area.... I would say around the 15th on should be a good time..
