hi
Well... i have been to morocco & the best currency 2 take with u will be the US Dollars or Euros as these currencies are widely
accepted in hotels, well-known shopping malls & even sum local
areas,
but when in the Downtown... than use the Morocco Dirhams, because knowing u as a foreigner, they (the local shops) will rip u off + give u the worst exchange rate for ur dollars or euros... So my advice is b4 jumpin in2 the central area, go to a currency exchange or a nearby bank & get ur currency exchanged for the Morocco Dirhams.
Hope dis helps!
CHEERS :)

I have always taken british pounds as this is the best option. You get 16 dirhams for £1. Most of the time I just take money from the ATMs which come out in dirhams and this way you only change what you need to. If you do take euros it works out at about 10 euros being 100 dirhams. As with all countries be vigilant when taking money from the ATMs and dont carry large amounts of cash around. Enjoy your trip

I went to Morocco last year. Take US Dollars - BUT make sure that you take plenty of small bills, if you have larger bills they find excuses to short-change you.
This is not peculiar to Morocco, it happens everywhere.
While you are in Morocco, you can change dollars for dirhams, when you leave the country, they are worthless - so only change a little at a time.
Also, haggle over the prices of everything, expect to pay approximately half of the asking price. They enjoy the game and you can have some fun fighting over the prices.
Have a great time.

You cannot take Dirhams out of Morocco, but you can take them in with you (get them from your travel agent rather than at the airport) We took a mixture of US Dollars and Dirhams, and you are very well advised to make sure you have small denomonations of dollars, just from the point of view of saving time on change and not being stuck with large quantities of Dirhams at the end of your stay.....they will end up in the charity bucket at the airport on your way out.
Its a beautiful country, make the most of your stay and be resectful of the culture, its not western.

I always took Euro with me and never had the slightest problem. From the moment you set foot in a city you can exhange the euro notes for dirhams in many jeweller shops or hotels or just any shop with the sign 'currency exchange here'. That can be a grocery shop though.
