the program is imatterial. it is the operating system and its interaction with printer that will determine the output. Linux printing with standard printers can be hit and miss therefore it is very important to check out the following site:
http://www.linuxprinting.org/
It lists printers that are known to work either fully or partially with linux operating systems.
******* Do not take the advice above - lots of printer will not work linux properly as there are no drivers for them ***********

With Ubuntu (or Kubuntu) and most modern Linux distros you get an HP toolbox similar to Windows, this is because on o f the few manufacturers that help sponsor Open Source is HP. In Ubuntu's control center and try an add a printer and this will normally give you a list of the make and model of recognised hardware. This is also true for almost any additional hardware, then look up a model and if you like it - install it, if it's on the list there sould be very little tweaking required, only as much as you can do in a Windows setup. Having said HP, Epsom is also well backed and the cartridges can be considerably cheaper.

The Compaq and Firefox are not issues. They will accept any printer. The question is what printer goes with what you want to do. If you are going to print a lot of black and white pages there are inexpensive laser printers (like Brother). If you are going to do a lot of photos there are photo ink jet printers (like Epson). If you are going to do a mix including black, white, color there are regular ink jet printers (like HP). Look at them in the stores and see which meets your needs (and your budget) best.

HP works well.
Almost any Postscript printer will work, except for any Winprinter, which are brain dead rip-offs, encouraged by Microsoft, the multiple convicted Felon, who has just had probation revoked and extended for several more years, for continuing to steal and pirate!
Check out http://google.com/linux search of printers... also check the hardware lists in the Ubuntu forums! http://ubuntu.org

More than likly any printer would be compatable. Just check the system requirements before you purchase one. I do however suggest an All In One, printer, scanner, copier, fax. It's well worth it and you can pick one up from Walmart for about 50 bucks.

appears like your ISP to me, yet in spite of the truth that, you ought to position in the present LTS Ubuntu: 12.04 LTS. 10.04LTS continues to be supported until eventually April 2013, yet as you've stated, you're utilising Firefox 3.6!!! that's the former Firefox. improve to twelve.04 so that you may have the present FF version, to boot because the present software customarily. an option determination is to position in the Chromium browser, it will be on your software midsection, no matter if that's not, then that's in basic terms yet another reason to improve to the present Ubuntu, the position it truly is for sale (to boot as a lot extra different software).
