straight to deleted is not normal. if it were going to junk/spam folder then I could understand that.
If it is going straight to deleted then there must a rule setup for it.
If it is going to junk then you just need to add them to your safer senders list.

You did not say what email you are using, so can not be specific.
Most email programs will have an options for listing spam or blocking addresses. That email has probably been added to the list. You will need to look through the options of the program for the spam list and remove them from it.
If it is MS Outlook (Express) you are using, it has the ability to writes "rules". Check under rules to see if you might have accidently set up a rule that says put all email from this address into the deleted folder.

you may have accidently marked it as spam.
If you can see his letter, open it and click on "not spam"
Otherwise Unblock the address of the person
from options > mail options >
Find a list of blocked address. Scroll in to see the address. Select it and press Unblock.
Also you can add the name and address of the person to your addresses list if it is already not there.
