I'm from the UK, got a young family, so need an area with good schools, and looking for friendly good place to work (consider most work - although work in advertising here ) would love to live on the water/sea front though close to some beautiful natural scenery i f possible (but not feel too isolated)

I heard New Brunswick and Nova Scotia are beautiful as well as Vancouver area.

The winter can be bad if your not used or prepared for it. Where are you going to live. Alberta is by far the best and most booming province. BC is nicer weather wise, but has alot of pit falls too. I would say go to Alberta, If you can't get a job there, there must be something seriously wrong with you. They are starving for people in every sector. Don't go east if you don't speak french. The west is Best. Depending where your from relates to whats better and whats worse. Compared to the UK actually just about everything is better. No crowded motor ways, not nearly so much rain, the sky is blue not grey. Houses are bigger, cheaper, cars cheaper, fuel cheaper, half naked women everywhere in the summer(because it s cold in the winter, they get neked in summer) Awsome National Parks, Lakes, wilderness, mountains, skiing, quading, snowmobiling, hunting(real hunting, not with dogs and horses), you can own a gun, you can protect your property, without worry of persecution. I could go on and on.

Van is nice, but pricey, Vancouver Island, Coquitlum, Port Alberni, all nice, but again pricey. Honestly, just starting out you would be better in Alberta. Calgary is nice, mountains right near by (like half hour drive) big city. Only downfall is sports teams Flames and Stampeders BOOOOO. Oilers and Eskimos Yeah! Edmonton has a better river vally, and festivals, Fringe, OOK fest, Big Valley, among others all summer. More lakes in the north, Grandparents have a cabin an hour from Edmonton. Good places to live around there, St.Albert, Fort Saskatchewan, Sherwood Park, all close commutes to Edmonton. I grew up in St.Albert and it was good. Lots of good area for kids, parks, maze of ravines that run through the city. Schools are good and well funded. The east is ok but to be honest you'll be lonely, because they are all going to Alberta. Not joking. Alberta is where it's at right now. Go there make some good scratch for a few years, then if you want (which you won't) move. If you want water, take a holiday to Okanogan, Shuswap, Salmon Arm all huge lakes just on the other side of the mountains, house boats, orchards, cider, Best pot you ever smoked. I can't say enough about Alberta. Best radio station too 100.3 The BEAR.

Welcome to Canada! Bievenue a Canada! Where are you coming from?

There are many great things here in Canada, but what part are you living in? I'm in Alberta, but have travelled to parts of B.C., Saskatchewan, Ontario, and Quebec. I've been to most of the major cities in those provinces. Let me know and if I know anything, I'll most definately help you out!

*edit*

I just read nicks post, and if completely agree. If you do not already have a job, come to Alberta! There very seriously are too many jobs and not enough people to fill them. I was in Calgary this past weekend and almost every business we passed had help wanted signs in their windows. I saw that some companies were just doing 'spot interviews' (on the spot). Many companies are offering excellent sign on bonuses just to lure people to their company. I'm in the Edmonton area (about 4 hours north of Calgary) and it's exactly the same here. My sister is even farther north where oil is making the area boom far too fast. There is almost no housing available. Actually, that's a problem with being in Alberta right now. You can take your pick of jobs, but if you can find a place you should plan on being there awhile, even if you're renting.

Most of the Country is awesome and the range of scenery is amazing. Be careful in Quebec province on the language issue. Oh, yeah the food is mostly boring.
