Most of my favourite rock and alt bands are british like The Beatles,The Who,Pink Floyd,Led Zep,Iron Maiden,Coldplay,Keane etc. thogh I love american bands like Pearl Jam,Nirvana,The Killers etc.
I think brit alternative is far more creative and experimenting.Looking at it in the perspective of a rock fan...not a patriot...which clan do you think is better?

The british music scene in the 60s and 70s was brilliant, and that formed most of the bands you mentioned.
Notice todays crop is hardly as good.
To really get great music, you need a scene, like cambridge (look at how many musicians grew up there) and londons underground scene at the same time to where all musicians can hang out and work in a creative environment

Add the Queen, The Smiths, and Oasis. The British rock is way better.

I don't think you're giving American rock enough credit, or you just haven't sought out the good stuff. If Pearl Jam is tops on your American rock list then you're simply not looking hard enough.

Definitely British, I like Oasis, Aqualung, and Queen (are they British?). The rock bands that I like most are British. So, in my opinion it is better than American:)

Who defined Heavy Meatl? Black Sabbath. Who defined punk? The Sex Pistols. Who defined gormless whining indie music? The Smiths.
The UK RAAAAWKS, although we are surely inspired by the great acts that come from the States, like Iggy, Slayer, etc.

well....some british rock bands are FAR better than some american rock bands...and also some american rock bands are FAR better than some other british rock bands. though, most of my favourite bands are american (greenday, evanescence, nirvana). and i'm not saying this out of patriotism 'cause i'm romanian ;)
