HAHAHA.... YOU are so right. I work an evening shift and ride my bike home at 1:00 a.m. It never, ever fails that some stooly in their riding lawn mower car wants to race me off the line. I can't help but smile, because it's so damn silly. Not sure what time of the day this happens to you, but my thought it's the fellas that have been at the watering hole all night. Good question though!!!
Rick, If I were the asker, I'd pick your answer as best!!!!!!!

That sewing machine engine under the hood is probably made with the very same technology as your Kaw 1100 engine, but has to haul alot more weight, so don't be too harsh. Also, if it's a good small car, like a Miata or Acura RSX, Civic Si, etc you had better hope he doesn't race you around any turns, or you will find yourself in the ICU of a local hospital.

As a Licensed Motorcyclist -- the whole focus of your driving while on the Motorcycle SHOULD be YOUR SAFETY and NOT racing from the intersection as fast as you can gear it up ...
One of the basic principles of safety for a Motorcyclist is to ASSUME you can NOT be seen -- so when I am stopped for the lights (and even when I am going through an Intersection) is to constantly SCAN the traffic and conditions around me -- to see what I can see -- observe the focus of other drivers, and to make sure I can be safe and NOT have folks drive right into me.
THIS constant awareness of my position as a Motorcyclist has allowed me to enjoy riding my motorcycle for now over three decades and counting ... the ROAD is meant to be shared, and shared it will be. Too many times have I seen behemouth Trucks and Buses and even Big Pickups change lanes so fast with NO signals that I KNOW if I was not always aware of my position in the road -- I would have definitely been hit/injured/killed.
Have I had to put down my motorcycle to avoid an accident at times? YES -- I did have to do that once (thank goodness only once). BECAUSE I wear my Safety Gear (Gloves, Full Face Helmet, Leathers, Boots, etc) -- I survived and walked away -- but yes, my safety gear was also damaged.
SO the whole point of this -- if you are racing from the intersection it is NOT the car driver who is gunning that engine that is at fault for 'testosterone stupidity' -- it is BOTH of you -- YOU for not being aware as a Motorcyclist that you are Basically Invisible to the driver even in the smallest cars, and the Auto Driver who is endangering everyone by the stupidity of racing you.

They're the ones that don't understand the concept of "power-to-weight ratio," and should be toyed with up to 2nd gear before you wave and blow their doors off. Something about middle-aged guys in silver Audis that like to show off?
I'm not saying to race everyone just to prove something! Pricks will be pricks, and you should always just go about your merry way without joining their ranks. But everyone has those days when some jerk-off insists on trying to show you how much faster their coffee-can-mufflered Civic is, and you should put as much space as possible between you in the shortest amount of time possible!

Here's an idea. Let them speed off and win. They will feel proud of themselves until the cops catch them. Then you can wave at them as the cops are writing their tickets.
Racing on the roads is dangerous for everyone. Don't race.

Most bikes are faster in acceleration because of power to weight ratio, but on racetracks around the world, cars have the faster laptimes...... more rubber!!!

One possibility is that people don't seem to like following motorcycles. Perhaps having a narrow (as compared to a car) vehicle in front of them throws them off.

Ego...why anyone cares who is faster than who is beyond me...the idea is to get to your destination safely...the who gunning/racing engines and speeding from light to light is just foolish and dangerous...and proves nothing, but that the drivers that do it are selfish and egotistical...
