They need joyful, energetic and pretty healthy looking people around.

There's always something to do at the local public schools. Now that my children are in college, I have turned my 22 year volunteer work into a career. This is my first year teaching High School English!

Volunteer firefighter at two different fire houses.
Realized what a need there is for more, and enjoy it.
Putting the fire out, and tending to accident victims is only a small part of the job.
Don't get much sleep some nights, but neither do those that need help.

I would like to volunteer at our local tavern. I would like to be the person that taste-tests from the kegs ever day to make sure that the beer has not gone bad.
But the owner turns me down. That is what I don't understand, why some people turn away good volunteer help.

I do outdoor work, some with school kids. Parks and trails never get enough funding and rely on volunteers. I also volunteered as a library aide at my son's school when he was a kid.

Yes; I work with a salmon hatchery in Issaquah, Washington; I teach people about the life cycle of these fish, and help them understand the importance of salmon to the ecology of western Washington and the Puget Sound. It's a kick, especially working with little kids who aren't much bigger than the fish :-)

I've been to New Orleans four times in the past year, building houses. No plans to stop soon.
I also knit blankets for the homeless in my own city.

I am thinking of serving a full time mission for a year and half for my church; the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (namely the Mormon church) next year. I don't know where I will be called, so it will be exciting. I want to help people to come unto Christ and hear the gospel of Jesus Christ in its fulness. His church is restored.
