do you just give up and replace all the bulbs with 40 watters so your poor poor wife thinks things are growing dimmer and dimmer and life is fading....

For a moment I almost thought you were referencing a classic movie....Gaslight, was it???
But of course most of the people who participate here (myself included) were not born until decades after this movie was made.
Still...maybe you have cable and caught it on one of the Classics channels????

I keep it pretty dark in my house, like a bat in a cave...I call it "mood lighting". Harsh lights give me a headache.
