Rely on yourself for your own happiness. Other people will not give it to you. Once you decide that you are going to be responsible for your own happiness, go out and make it happen. I know this sounds easier than it is but it is true. A great man once said that there are worse things than being alone. Be your own best friend, once you like yourself things will fall in place. This doesnt mean you should cut yourself off from the world. Just take note of what you want out of life, what kind of person you can be if you work at it. Nothing worth doing is easy. You have to find a purpose, find fun, find meaning.. You are the only one who can. It sucks but the only way to get any of that is to really want it and work hard at getting it. I am the most cynical person around at times but it worked for me once i made an effort, what you put out comes back. Try volunteer work in something you know nothing about but are interested in. You will find a new meaning, be wanted, meet people and learn something.

I think you are having a mid life crisis. At about 40 we have probably reached a pinnacle in our career. Children have grown up. The wife has turned cold on you. Sex life is zero, unless you can find someone other than the wife. That is when we look at ourselves, and think that this is not enough. 40 is relatively young and that is when people make major changes, if they have the guts, before old age sets in and we curse our wasted opportunities. Hope I didn't depress you too much!

40 used to be the age were financial constraints usually lessened, kids are of an age were they are not quite so demanding and you could generally relax and have an active social life again . Now with people having kids latter in life, mortgages going through the roof second marriages etc 50-60 would be more like it

Age is just a mark of time it means little in relation to your question. Life can be the same escapade as it has always been in your 40 years but it means -Taking Control.

There are more opportunities now than there ever were and more goals to reach for than before.

Put your brain into gear and fuel your ego to find your destiny

I prefer the saying "today is the first day of the rest of your life".

Never think it's too late to do something you want to do. Just make a list of all the things you want to do and start doing them. Start with the small things which are easy to achieve. Then make plans for the bigger things. Be positive and you can achieve anything!

Life is good, make it so, take care of your body, don't feed it
junk. I hit 55 but look better then now . When I was 40 I went
in a stupid cycle. Don't go there.

Life is what you make it ! It's YOURS ,you can't expect anybody else to tell you where yours begins .
There is no starting post , just live it to the full whatever age you are ..
