Yes, even though pearl harbor day isn't observed with school closing and holiday hours. I think it's the same type of event, but since 9/11 was so recent and we're still in a war on terror, then I think it would be good to take a day to remember and take stock of our own lives.
This would not be a celebration, it would be a day of remembrance.

For many this is a time of grim remembrances of a horrible tragedy and many today are still reeling from it's aftermath.
Disasters happen,I don't think they could all be made into holidays. As much as we may want to show that much respect,I think it would be better off forgotten. We should never have to
memorialize atrocities like that. For me holidays are times of celebration and relaxation,September 11th does not fall into any of those categories for me!!!!!!!!!

No, I don't believe it should be.
The disaster on 9/11/01 should not be "celebrated". The disaster that has occurred after 9/11/01 - the gutting of our Constitutional rights, the attempt by the President to assume almost dictator-like power, and the fearmongering from the administration is a national disgrace, not something to celebrate.
We don't celebrate Pearl Harbor day (Dec. 7). We celebrate "VJ" day, and "VE" day.
And to the person who answered before me? We are not in a "war on terror", we are involved in an illegal and immoral war of imperialsm that is a disgrace to our country and it's Constitution.

We have "Memorial Day" to honor those that have given their lives for "freedom".
Perhaps that's what you implied. I think it would be nice, because apparently tragic events like that are lost to time such as the sneak attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7th 1941.
Nobody barely even mentions that anymore, but it was no less tragic.
A day of remembrance for those that were unjustifiably killed should be made a federal "memorial day".

i think its too early to say...down the road maybe, but i think the day of rememberance that we have right now is pretty good. there will be many people that would not like this because they would say anytime a terrorist blows up a bomb in the US, should that be a holiday? though i think this is way different and way more drastic since it is very rare that the US gets attack with such planning and magnitude with this kind of end result. i hope one day it is a holiday, but i do not believe it will be anytime soon.

Yes but not yet. It is too soon after the devastation. Give it some time and I think you will see it as a federal holiday with in the next 10 years.

Please do not think this way dear.It was a worst day in a History of USA and for the mankind that more than 5000 people had died with no faults of theirs.USA should not have Holiday for that day but should be a people's united day for war against the terror.Let us pledged - we the people will fight and eliminate terrorism from this world.
