Well i am working with maruti udyog limited as an engineer.
maruti 800 has not stopped. it is gradually being replaced with alto.

since maruti 800 does not meet safety norms that will come into affect in 2008 so maruti is gradually reducing production of maruti 800.

one more reason is due to spike in swift's production maruti 800 had to be paused for few weeks.

Marui 800 has reported slipping sales in recent times. mainly due to the introduction of the more attractive Alto at a comparable price (just 35,000 Rs. extra). That might be a reason why more and more Altos are being seen rather than 800s.
I dont think 800s production has been stopped but this might be a form of product cannibalism by Maruti( incremental activity in the form of more advanced Alto replacing 800).

The newer cars are longer, higher, wider. Thus the small but cute & efficient Marutis are hard to spot.
Maruti 800 is the pride of India, it will always go on.

I think they are replacing it with Alto but since 800 is flagship product they may not stop it but relaunch with a some modification.
