MOST DEFINITELY! Fashion is life. At least its my life. {I'm a fashion studies and design major}. Fashion is a means of self expression for some people. And not just high fashion. Everyday fashion rocks! If only we could get people not to judge other according to what they're wearing.

I think it depends on how you define 'fashion'.
FASHION, as in, the clothes that we choose to wear to express our personalities, opinions, feelings, etc, in my opinion is a great thing- it allows us to show who we are as people and helps to set us apart from the crowd. I think that dressing a certain way to make a statement is just as important as verbalising your point of view on a topic.
However, fashion in the sense of 'let's all wear the same type of clothing to adhere to what a celebrity is doing' is really ridiculous.
While it's great to draw inspiration from around us in all walks of life, I think the line is drawn when we flat-out copy our idols looks in the hopes that it will prove a point to society that we are of a certain 'standard'-- to look down on someone because they are wearing a 'last season' outfit is wrong.
Fashion should be about expressing who we are as people on the inside- not about proving a point of how rich or upper-class we are.

For me its important because of the job i do.. i work in a salon as i am a hairdresser, and obviously if im stood there with a pair of trakky bottoms on an a t-shirt, it reflects the kind of person i am. Im also abit of a girly girl so i like getting dressed up! But i do like comfy clothes when im just chilling out.. Thats when the trakky bottoms come out!!

I find that the people who aren't slaves to trends are more confident & happy people.
People often confuse fashionable clothes with trendy clothes.
Trends pass quickly & you are left with clothes you won't wear just to not be ridiculed by others who you esteem as fashionable.

Oh yeah, If you wore clothes that had holes in it or smelled bad then people prejudge us. I feel since I wear expensive clothes I am treated better. I have tested this out and it is true. I wore some really bad clothes a couple of times and people weren't as nice especially when I went into Normstroms. Then a couple of weeks later I wore my normal clothes and they treated me a lot better.

Of course it's important. Just think about that:
When you look someone who wears a suit you think "Oh that man is propably rich and successful" and if you see a woman wearing old-fashioned clothes you think "She is religious/conservative/poor". See what I mean?

I think our minds have been trained to think it is important. I think that since so much emphasis is placed on it in the media, that we naturally treat it as important.
