When someone says they have "crabs," they are talking about a particular type of parasite infection. Crabs is the common term for lice found in the pubic hair of humans. Barely the size of a pinhead, lice are organisms that live only with the help of another organism, called a host. There are thousands of types of lice—some only infect horse ears—and unfortunately, some have developed an attraction to humans. The official name for pubic lice is Pthirus pubis. Other lice that often infect humans are Pediculus humanus capitis (head lice) and Pediculus humanus corporis (body lice). The term "crabs" seems to come from the microscopic appearance of the pubic louse

"Crabs" is the slang-term for a mite-bug that attaches to the skin to suck blood. The mite looks like a crab, and that's where the expression originated. They are transparent, and at a glance, will look like a flake of dry skin. However, it will itch like HELL.
Now, if you want to know whether, or , not you have crabs, without having to seek medical care, here's what you do:
1. Get a mirror
2. Get a needle
3. Get a bottle of alcohol
4. Small recloseable container
Where you see those "dry skin" spots, take the needle and try to remove it, by prying it off, from the bottom. Place it in the container. If it is a crab, it will begin to crawl around in the container.
In the event it is, fear not. While a laborious task, crabs won't kill you, or even permanently affected you.

The crab louse can live in almost any form of human hair, but is found most commonly in pubic hair, leading to its other common name of pubic louse.
Pubic lice are most commonly spread by sexual contact and are considered a sexually transmitted disease, but can also be spread by sharing clothes or bedding.
