He should try one of the agencies which supply construction workers such as Hays, Coyles or Rullion. Also go round to local sites asking the agent and all the subbies if they need any labour.

My honest advice would be not to work in London. I used to live there and was fortunate to have a good job with a national company but for a lot of people it's a struggle to live and work there.

It's a popular misconception that people in London earn a lot more money. Whilst it's true that wages are higher than elsewhere in the UK this is more than offset by the higher costs of general living. In fact, if you want to earn money then North Yorkshire is the best place to be as it has the highest disposable income in the UK - plus the people and scenery are infinitely nicer.

Trends in the building industry change. A few years ago bricklayers were in short supply and could charge what they wanted (almost) - a basic of £1,000 a week was normal and with overtime and productivity it could easily be doubled or trebled. There's still a shortage of brickies in some places but not so much as there used to be.

One of the big problems facing skilled workers in the construction industry is that there has been an influx of people, primarily from Eastern Europe, who are prepared to do the same job but for less money. As London has a huge number of such workers he's facing an uphill struggle to get a good job with a decent salary. Outside of London there aren't so many migrant workers so there's less competition.

Try somewhere like Leeds which is rapidly expanding (more than 50% population increase between the last 2 censuses) and has many building projects underway at any one time - large and small.

Your partner's obviously an adept tradesperson so maybe he could learn bricklaying, plumbing or electrical skills as these are some of the trades which are in short supply at the moment.

Scaffolfing is another area which is expanding, health and safety rules now mean that scaffolding is required for all but the simplest of floor level jobs and the way things are going it will soon be a requirement to have scaffolding erected in order to change a lightbulb. I was on a site the other week where one man was contracted to paint the external window frames at a cost of £3000, something he would have done using a ladder until recently. This year the they've paid outan extra £28,000 to have scaffolding erected.

Go to www.monster uk.com put his CV in you should be lucky !
You can also go via the yellow pages :
Roofing companies
Builders etc.
Shouldn't be difficult lots of building going on.
He could also go to sites and do cold calling for a job ( that would be the last straw )
Tell him" good luck "from me !

you want your significant different very much, and it hurts to be an element, yet you may want to shop in ideas why you're doing this, what's the authentic outcome. 8 months isn't that lengthy and also you may initiate feeling more desirable proper and also you may savour different more desirable once you come back.
