I prefer Hutch for their customer care. moreover I havent faced any trouble with hutch connection.
But if you prefer availability in many places of the country, you gotta opt airtel.

Telecom plans depend a lot on your expected usage pattern and location, just think through following before deciding on a plan -
1. Pre Vs. Post paid - while pre paid gives you control over costs post paid is more convenient and usually has lower call rates
2. Frequently called numbers- it is advisable to go with the company on which more of your potential calling numbers are as within network calls are cheaper than calls landing outside netwrk i.e. a Hutch to Hutch call will be cheaper than a Hutch to Airtel call and vice versa
3. Local network coverage - Check out network coverage of both near your home and workplace
4.Local Promotions & Offers - There are a lot many offers and promotions going on in telecom resulting in either lower tariff rates or lower purchase cost, just go around some shops to get an idea

Depends on your city and usage area.
If u roam a lot all over the country the go for BSNL / MTNL / DTNL, they are cheap and good network coverage n quality.
Airtel is cheaper (some plans) in some cities while Hutch is in others. Roaming is not so good and very high roaming charges in both.
I think you should first decide
1.on which network are most of your friends? same network charges are low.
2.what you will be using most, talk time or SMS or MMS?
3.take the plan as per your requirement
(i visited most of their websites for tariff plan, you may also do so from localdealers or repective websites)

You should take Airtel because Airtel services is better then Hutch. You should study the plans of Airtel & Hutch with service.
Then you can find why Airtel is Best.

Where are you from? Usually its city dependent. I have used Airtel and Hutch and where one is good the other isnt. Airtel has great service IMHO but Hutch plans are found to be cheaper than Airtel in most cases

airtel is the beat one for its coverage n attractive offers the hutch signals r very weak n u dont find them in city outskirts so better go for airtel i use hutch n it sucks n bsnl is also equally good interms of signal reception ok but the call costs r more in bsnl

i had asked the same question.... according to the answers i got i took an airtel connection. im very happy wid airtel bcoz i get gud reception everywhere and even the coverage in outskirts of places is very gud.... in my opinion u shud go for airtel.

airtel because it has big network even in villages, and good schemes for payment options, reliable outlets, recharging facilities all over in India

im not sure abt airtel...but i hav hutch and im fine with it...its pretty good...lookut out for good offers....
