I think your quetion was fair but ignorant , and she may of been snooty with you because it was very close to a sore nerve.
Animals are kept in captivity because in the wild they would be killed, although they are preserved, they could never be given the treatment that freedom in their natural environment would allow...
An example being that elephants have been known to travel over 50 miles in a day!! ~ And i can't see that happening in a Zoo.
But keeping wild animals on display to ride or whatever is the lesser of two evils, as its better than hunting them to extinction.

The lady should have been nicer. But having said that...
Zoos don't usually offer elephant rides. That's something you're more likely to find at a circus and even then, it's not a sure thing.
It takes a specially trained elephant to let somebody get on it's back.
But you have every right to ask that question. You never know what's allowed unless you ask, right?

Some adults dont like kids and she probably pissed you didn't understand what the zoo was for. But you have a right to be there like everybody else as long as you behave so you shoulda asked her where the bumper cars were after the elephant ride question. By the way the zoo by my house has elephant and camel rides so she's dumb.

she is a snob zoos are places kids go to look at animals. how is putting an elephant in a cage looking after it, they don't conservation is something which is done in the wild not in zoos. surely giving rides would encourage people to care for animals.
I suggest you cut the letter below and send to the zoo.
" I really enjoyed looking at the elephants and want to start collecting ivory. When I grow up I want to shoot elephants because they are big and cool. I would like to farm them too for their ivory and give children rides but I'd cut their trunks off so they can't hurt anyone."

Unless these days they don't have rides due to conservationists I think your question was reasonable.
Taronga Park Zoo in Sydney Australia had rides when I was a kid.
That was a long time ago though.

An elephant is a living thing, not a fairground ride and should be treated with respect, maybe that is why she got so upset...
