Staying motivated can be the hardest thing with weight loss but knowing what you want to achieve is half the battle.
You need to choose a lifestyle plan that is right for you and one that you can stick with. Not a diet per say but a plan that will get you where you want to be and that you can continue with after you have reached your goal. As you see the weight coming off that us usually motivation enough to keep you going and if your plan is right for you then you say - ya I can live with this.
Also pick an exercise plan that you can live with - even if to start with its just walking. You can also talk to your doctor to see what he/she says about your weight loss desired - maybe they have something that could help you (I don't mean the traditional diet pill routine).
But don't go on a *diet* - people that do that will in most cases go right back to their normal eating habits after they have lost their weight and gain it back again.

I have a letter i wrote to myself pinned on my wardrobe, which i look at every day. This note reads along the lines of "keep motivated, think of the outcome, dont go back..." And have pinned up 3 pictures i totally dislike around it. Whenever i look at this, it keeps me going.
I also look in the mirror whenever i want to grab a snack or two. When i do this, i say to myself "are you really hungry? Do you REALLY want that choc?" I then always say no, with a smile.
That works for me.

I suppose you could measure ang check your weight every 3 days. Then do a huge diagram and put it at the place where you do exersises and at the door of your fridge. If you see the results, you'll get motivated

Join Weight Watchers or Slimming World - These are not "diets", they are healthy eating plans that allow you to eat the food you enjoy! Yep...Including chocolate, cake etc! Therefore, joining one of these is not a chore.
I find the worst thing about fad diets is cutting out food you love. This just makes you crave them even more.
Do an enjoyable exercise DVD too - Rosemary Conley works for me!!!!
