Newborns should not be "trained" but instead the parents should respond to their needs. When a baby cries, it is to communicate a true need to the parent.

I love the Dr. Sears books, "The Baby Book" is a great resource for the first 2 years, much better than the "What to Expect" books. His website www.askdrsears.com is also a great resource. There are many good articles about babies on www.mothering.com, too.
