I have been told tuna's not good for pregnant women because of the amount of mercury in it.

My OB told me, that eating tuna 2-3 times a week is ok. The threat of mercury is nill these days. Your doctor should have given your wife a list of healthy eating tips and things to avoid.

In the UK it is recommended for pregnant women to limit their intake of tuna during pregnancy to two medium-sized cans of tuna or one tuna steak and avoid eating shark, marlin or swordfish entirely.
This also applies to to women who are trying for a baby, are pregnant or are breastfeeding.

I ate tuna while pregnant, didn't hurt me or the baby. I didn't eat it everyday though.

it's the mercury in it if you eat too much of it that's dangerous for everyone. For pregnancy you'd have to ask your doctor.
There is fish oil you can buy that has no mercury in it if the oil is what you're interested in. This oil is good also for arthritis.
