First off, do your homework on them. Make sure you have the money to care for them properly. They need regular vet care, shots, check ups and most of them require at least one major procedure in their lives. They can get all kinds of diseases as they get older, i.e. insulinoma and adrenal disease. Ferrets need special food, special litter, bedding, hammocks, treats, toys and a large cage.
Do you have the time for a ferret? They need to get potty trained by you, you have to scoop their litter box at least twice daily, feed and water them and they need to play outside the cage for about 4 hours daily. You have to interact with them when they're out of the cage, to socialize them. Once a week you need to wash their whole cage down. You have to bathe ferrets, but not more than once a month or they'll stink worse. You must clip their claws, clean their ears and teeth and brush them to keep hairballs from forming.
Now that you decided that you can do all this, can you put up with the odor? Ferrets will always have a bit of a musky odor and a lot of people don't like it. Make sure you check that out first.
I suggest you read up on ferrets, what they do, what they eat, what they need. Get "Ferrets for Dummies", it's a good book.
Then you need to make sure you find a vet that is ferret knowledgeable, before you get the ferret, just in case you have an emergency.
Still want one??? Why don't you go to www.petfinder.com???
There are lots of ferrets sitting in shelters waiting for someone to give them a forever home. The shelters usually charge an adoption fee. I paid $45.00 per ferret and got a giant cage from the previous owners. Think about it, and good luck.
PS: most ferrets do not really like to cuddle, though they will let you hold them for short amounts of time.
It's said that 1 out of 100 will cuddle. The rest of them are too busy exploring and being funny. So if you want a cuddly pet you might want to get a kitten.
I just noticed that you are in England, so the petfinder won't work for you, but I'm sure you can find a shelter somewhere to adopt.

Don't know about in England, but here in the USA they sell them in petstores, you can find private breeders, and there are many shelters to adopt homeless ones. When you purchase one, they usually go for $150, and if you adopt, $80-100. Make sure you do your homework, though, there is a reason the ferret shelters are always packed! People get them on impulse and don't realize the amount of work they take. I have one, and it is by far the coolest pet I've ever had, but also the most high maintainance one!! I am a stay at home mom, so I have the time to take proper care of him. Hope this helps!!
